Police operatives from the Anambra State Command have dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate in Isuaniocha, Awka North Local Government Area, arresting six suspects — including a female — and recovering a large cache of suspected illicit substances.
In a press statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that officers attached to the Special Cultism Squad, Obosi Sector, launched the operation in the early hours of Friday based on credible intelligence.
Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the rising drug abuse among youths and emphasized that drugs fuel many criminal activities and antisocial behaviors. He also pledged to intensify advocacy efforts through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, a program designed to educate young people about the dangers of drug use and related offenses.
“On May 30, 2025, acting on credible information, our officers raided a drug trafficking hideout,” Ikenga stated. “They arrested six suspects — including a female drug dealer — and recovered large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be hard drugs, along with other incriminating substances.”
The arrested suspects include Chinyere Onwuka (32), John Kennedy Onwuka (36), Chidiebere Onyeze (30), Echeazu Nonso (35), Osita Chukwu Chialuka (21), and Nnebedum Wisdom (25).
Ikenga confirmed that the police will transfer all suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Awka for further investigation and necessary action.
